The Government is investing £1.7 billion in broadband roll-out and nine out of every 10 homes and businesses can now access superfast speeds. It is also on track to achieve its 2015 manifesto commitment to deliver access to superfast broadband to at least 95 per cent of the UK by the end of 2017.
Since I was elected in 2010 I have been campaigning for improved superfast broadband connectivity across the constituency. Progress has been slow at times, but BT Openreach are now delivering on their commitments to residents.
I have continued to represent your views and to keep Openreach accountable for its record on super-fast broadband, which is essential in today’s society—it underpins economic growth and allows homes to function in a digital age.
Figures published by Ofcom in March 2017 confirmed that the local picture is positive; superfast broadband is now available across 98% of the constituency, up from around 70% in 2010.
