Figures released by the Department of Community and Local Government show how little Government funding Barnet Council receives in comparison to other London local authorities. Barnet is one of the worst funded Councils in the capital, receiving the joint 5th lowest Government grant per head out of the 32 London Boroughs.
Speaking from his Westminster office, Mike Freer MP said, “These figures show how totally unfair the local authority funding formula has become. Councils receive the vast majority of their income from central Government so these figures have a huge bearing on services and tax levels for each borough. It cannot be progressive that Kensington and Chelsea, one of the wealthiest parts of London, receives twice the amount that Barnet does.
Thankfully the Coalition Government has committed itself to reforming the system which so disadvantages our area.”
