I was delighted to welcome the new Routemaster, or Boris Bus as they will inevitably be known, to Golders Green. The new bus will replace Ken Livingstone’s hated giant bendy-buses – now completely banished from the capital, as promised by Boris.
Golders Green was one of the last places to lose the original Routemaster and I know will enthusiastically welcome it back in its new modern form. Scrapping bendy-buses has saved some £7m as they were notorious for fare dodging. In contrast the new Boris Bus will suited to Barnet’s roads, environmentally friendly and when a conductor is on board passengers will be again able to hop on and off using the rear open platform.
