Finchley MP, Mike Freer, is today celebrating the news that the future of the East Finchley Post Office has been secured at the nearby Universal Office Equipment (UOE) store. As well as benefitting from full disabled access, customers will also see the new Post Office open 7 days a week.
The consultation period for the move had been extended due to concerns being raised over the accessibility of the store. However, following discussions with Disability Action in Barnet and others, the Post Office and UOE have provided assurances that a sloping internal ramp, sliding automatic door and internal lift will be fitted to the new site.
The new Post Office counter will also feature a traditional floor to ceiling screened serving position, three open plan positions and a private consultation room. Subject to planning permission, a new post box will also be positioned outside the store.
Commenting on the news, Mike Freer said “The move to the UOE Store is excellent news for Post Office customers in East Finchley. The same facilities will be available in a new modern branch open 7 days a week. The consultation process was thorough, and residents’ views have been listened to and acted upon”.
The current branch will close at 17:30 on 21 May 2014 with the new branch opening at 09:00 on 22 May located 90 metres from the current site.
