George Floyd and BLM

The recent news of the death of George Floyd while being restrained by police in the United States has been extremely disturbing and upsetting. I am pleased that the authorities have taken the right action by charging the Police Officers responsible for this unnecessary death and I hope that justice is done.

While this incident took place on another continent, we should not think that these issues do not affect us here in the UK. I am proud to represent an extremely diverse constituency, one with people from all over the world and from all different backgrounds and religions, who call Finchley and Golders Green home.

Racism is vile in all its forms. There is no place for racism and brutality in any society, and we must ensure that all citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, heritage or religion are treated equally and fairly.

Black Lives Matter. Indeed, all lives matter. We must ensure that our society recognises that and gives everyone equal opportunity.
