Mike has quizzed Government Ministers about what they are doing to recruit more Black, Asian and ethnic minorities into the Civil Service. In Parliament he asked the Minister for Women and Equalities, Lynne Featherstone, what action she was taking ‘on increasing recruitment to the Civil Service from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic people.’
The Minister replied;
‘Black, Asian and other minority ethnic (BAME) representation in the civil service has been increasing steadily and is broadly representative of the economically active population. The Government are committed to attracting the best talent from the widest pool of candidates. There have been targeted and successful efforts to make the civil service and fast stream more diverse. My Cabinet colleagues are looking at the range of BAME internships run by Departments and I expect to have discussions with them on this matter in due course.’
Speaking from his Parliamentary office Mike said, “I’m delighted the Government is making progress in this regard. I will continue to push the Government to ensure the Civil Service is representative.”
