Over the last few weeks, I have met with all the candidates for the Party leadership. I have thought long and hard about who to support in this contest and have decided that I will be supporting Liz Truss to be the Leader of the Conservative Party and the next Prime Minister.
When I was Equalities Minister, I worked closely with Liz and saw first-hand her willingness to engage, discuss alternative viewpoints and make a clear decision. This decision is then also backed with resolve. As Exports Minister, I saw the legacy she left from her time as Secretary of State for International Trade and working with her and the Foreign Office was crucial to boost our exports.
Liz’s understanding of issues across portfolio’s was impressive, and I have no doubt she is the right person to be the next Prime Minister.
I believe Liz can unite the party, implement a bold new economic plan, and deliver for the country.
