The centenary of International Women’s Day will be celebrated globally on 8 March 2011. Mike has asked Barnet Asian Women’s Association (BAWA) to jointly host the event in light of their outstanding charitable work, supporting vulnerable local women.
The Right Honourable Baroness Sayeeda Warsi is the Chairman of the Conservative Party and the first female Muslim member of the Cabinet. Baroness Warsi will be speaking at the reception, along with Falguni Gorecha, a BAWA service user and Mrs Rama Kanabar, the Chair of BAWA. The Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Tony Finn, and the Lady Mayoress will be in attendance with an estimated 100 other local charity representatives and BAWA service users.
Speaking from his Westminster office, Mike Freer MP said, “This reception is an excellent opportunity to celebrate Barnet Asian Women’s Association valuable contribution to our local society. Since they were founded 25 years ago, the charity has helped and empowered countless women – I can think of no better opportunity than International Women’s Day to highlight their achievements.”
