It has today been announced that 78 trusts will benefit from funding for new cancer testing and detection technology. The new machines will help with early diagnosis of cancer and improve screening, helping to achieve the government’s commitment to ensure 55,000 more people survive cancer each year. This announcement follows the Prime Minister’s announcement of £200 million in funding for new cancer screening equipment.
The Royal Free hospital will receive 9 mammography machines and two new MRI scanners. The new equipment will also bring new capability, with many machines enabled for artificial intelligence so that the NHS is ready for the challenges of the future.
This is fantastic news for the Royal Free. These new machines will bring in alternatives with lower radiation levels, while improving efficiency by making them easier to use and being quicker and easier to scan. This news combined with the news earlier in the year of a permanent Breast Screening Unit at Finchley Memorial Hospital ensures that local patients can receive the best quality care.
