Figures released today by the House of Commons Library show that unemployment has fallen sharply in the last year. Unemployment currently stands at 2.6%, a whole 1% lower than May 2013. The news comes against a backdrop of increasing economic confidence and growth in the UK economy.
Speaking today, Mike Freer said “Whilst we can’t be complacent and obviously there is still further work to be done, the fall in unemployment shows that our long term economic plan is working”.
Across the UK, the number of people in work rose by a record 345,000, to 30.5 million. This brings the total new private sector jobs added since the election to 2million. The rise in the number of jobs has also been concentrated in full time employment.
