Reports of tomorrow’s planned repeat of last month’s convoy are extremely concerning. The anti-Semitism on show that day was unacceptable. My constituents should not have to live in fear in their own homes and communities. Freedom of speech is not a freedom to intimidate.
There is no place for antisemitism in our society, and our Jewish community has the right to feel safe. We must all be fighting against antisemitism wherever it occurs.
As soon as I became aware, I raised this with the Borough Commander, who has assured me that appropriate action would be taken.
The police has assured me that they are taking this matter extremely seriously, while trying to ensure that any convoy takes a central route into central London avoiding residential areas. They have also ensured me that there will be substantial policing presence in the community and around synagogues.
