I have repeatedly expressed my concerns regarding proposals for development in the Finchley Central area. These concerns included the loss of a significant amount of car parking at the station, insufficient parking for residents and the height and density of the proposed tower block. While I understand the need for new housing both here in Barnet and in London more widely, this must be in keeping with the local area - which these proposals were not.
I have recently received an update from Transport for London to inform me that the developer, Taylor Wimpey, has pulled out of the scheme. This is welcome news in the short term, but I know that TfL are considering their next steps. My view that any development needs to be in keeping with our existing development and skyline remains, and I will continue to engage with TfL and constituents on any future proposals for this site.
