On Monday 30 November 2015, Mike Freer invited three members of the UK Youth Parliament, who were elected to the UK YP through LB Barnet’s Youth Board, to Westminster. These young adults discussed subjects such as votes for 16 year olds, the proposed military action in Syria and how UK parliamentarians and other elected members of the community can work together to improve inter-faith relations.
The event was arranged by Tony Lewis, Lydia Papacostas and Chris Parillon, part of the Directorate covering Voice of the Child and community engagement.
The evening finished with an opportunity for staff and students to attend a debate on the Middle East in the House of Commons Chamber.
Mike commented, “I was very impressed with the UK YP members who I met this week. They demonstrated the views of young people are incredibly valuable and should not be regarded as less important because of their age.”
