On Monday, I attended the Girls’ Summit which was to raise awareness of female genital mutilation (FGM). I was keen to support Government measures to try and combat FGM which is an abhorrent practice.
Later that week I supported the All Party Group on HIV and Aids. Last week I visited South Africa to see the problems witnessed in providing medication to people with HIV. It was a fascinating visit which highlighted some of the work the UK Government is doing to help distribute drugs to some of the world’s poorest people.
Wednesday saw the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions take place. I brought local success story, Pentland, to the Prime Minister’s attention. For full details of my question, see the article on my website. On Wednesday I also met with constituents to discuss the future of Britain’s nuclear deterrent. I stressed that maintaining a viable deterrent is absolutely necessary for our national security.
Thursday saw my regular Childs Hill Library Surgery take place. For further information on my surgeries, please see the ‘Mobile Surgery’ section of my website.
Today I visited King Alfred School to talk to politics students. As ever, some excellent questions were asked on a wide range of issues.
I’ve got a number of engagements on Sunday including hosting a tea party at my constituency office for the excellent charity, Contact the Elderly. I will also be a guest at London's Ratha-Yatra Festival in Hyde Park where I will be smashing the ceremonial coconut! In the evening, Bein Yaakov School are hosting an event which I will be attending.
