Proposed Finchley Central Development

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is proposing through Transport for London to build homes on the car park and surrounding area at Finchley Central Station. New Homes are needed but development must be sensitive to the local area. This development is for 668 dwellings, with just 11 residential parking spaces. The tallest part of the development will be 27 storeys tall, which is not only out of keeping but will tower over the local area.

Details regarding the upcoming consultation can be found at www.finchleycentralconsultation.com. There is an exhibition to be located on Finchley Central station car park on Sunday 16 June, 2pm -6pm and Monday 17th June, 2pm - 9pm and I would encourage you to engage with these consultations.

In my opinion this development in its current format must be rejected as:

  1. It is a massive over-development of the site
  2. It removes all commuter parking
  3. It provides just 11 residential parking spaces for 668 dwellings
  4. The tower block element will be 27 storeys tall which will dwarf the local area and not be in keeping with existing buildings (by comparison the nearby Central House is just 9 storeys tall. The Holiday Inn at Henlys Corner is just 6 storeys and the tower block at Tally Ho Corner in North Finchley is 15 storeys).
