The Labour Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has continued his war on our city’s motorists with a new tax on drivers to be brought in alongside his damaging ULEZ expansion plans, piling more pressure on the lowest paid road users.
Mayor Khan has asked City Hall officials to draw up plans to hit Londoners with a road-pricing scheme, in which drivers will face charges on a pay-per-mile or pay-per-minute basis to use the capital's roads.
Under the plans, older vehicles and motorists using the road at peak times may also be charged more, a further slap in the face to hardworking Londoners.
The Mayor is failing our city, and regardless of what he may claim, his attacks on drivers are nothing more than brazen cash grabs to plug the hole in London’s finances caused by his own poor fiscal management.
I agree with the Transport Minister, Richard Holden, who has rightly said that Mayor Khan “is doing his best to shut London down”.
I will continue to oppose any and all policies introduced by the Mayor that will disadvantage road users in my constituency.
