It has come to my attention that many properties have lost water supply over the weekend, and i wanted to be sure that residents had the latest information. The latest I have received from Thames Water is the following:
UPDATE Monday 20th December AM
I am writing with what I expect will be the final update regarding the bursts in Hendon last week.
The good news is we have managed to complete the repair to the original burst, as well as the necessary water quality checks, ahead of schedule.
As a result, all customers should now be back in supply and we do not anticipate any further significant disruption as the network is starting to return to normal.
We have opened the bottled water station (Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, Champions Way NW4 1PX) today just in case any customers are still having internal issues, such as airlocks. If these get raised to us, we have plumbers available to assist.
There is still traffic management in place at the sites of the various bursts as it will take several days to reinstate all the roads properly.
Once again, we want to offer our sincerest apologies to everyone who has been impacted by this incredibly complicated burst. We understand the frustration this has caused and thank people for their patience.
This will be my final update unless there are any significant changes but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to get in contact.
UPDATE Thursday 16th December AM
We’re continuing to monitor water pressure across the area and making changes to improve the situation where we find it’s lower than expected. This includes changing the way we pump water around the local network and using tankers to put water into the system.
We realise there are places where pressure is still low and we’re really sorry for these continuing problems. This is more likely to be affecting you if you live on an upper floor and it’s around breakfast or tea time, when people tend to use more water.
If you’re without water please call us on 0800 316 9800.
If you need supplies please visit us at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, Champions Way NW4 1PX. We’re providing bottled water, and can load it into your vehicle if you’re arriving by car. We also have a community hub open at the site, if you have any questions.
Customers whose water is back on can find useful information here.
Our work is progressing well at Westside, Hendon, where we’ve been operating around the clock to fix a large pipe that burst early on Saturday. Repairing this will be an important step in getting supplies back to normal.
We’re also working to fix a later burst pipe that happened in Hendon Way. We know this is inconveniencing drivers and will complete this as soon as we can.
We’ll update you again later this morning as soon as there’s more news.
09:15am update -
Our engineers have been working through the night and repairs are progressing well. We’re continuing to move water into the local pipe network to improve the situation, but it’s possible customers on upper floors may have low pressure at times of high demand in the early morning and evening.
If you have no water please let us know – just call 0800 316 9800.
Our drive-through bottled water station at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, Champions Way NW4 1PX is now open again. Our team will be following advice on social distancing so, we’ll load water into your vehicle, please don’t get out or try to help – we’ve got it covered. The site is also open to pedestrians.
Our community hub will also be open at the same location from 10am, so please drop in if you have any questions.

Update Tuesday 14th December, 2PM
I am sorry to contact you again but a further burst on the network as caused properties in NW4 and NW7. It has occurred on Hendon Way, south of Saturday’s burst, and police have closed the road.
The result is that water cannot get to some areas impacted by over the weekend and yesterday. Our engineers have arrived and started work on fixing the burst and returning supplies as quickly as possible.
We fully understand the frustration and inconvenience this will again be causing so I want to assure you we are doing all we can to resolve the situation.
Our bottled water station remains open at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, Champions Way NW4 1PX and we will look to deliver water to all those people on our priority service.
As this is a relatively new event, I will send you further details later this afternoon.
Update received Tuesday 14th December - AM
Last night, our engineers installed some equipment which meant the final pocket of customers who were out of supply last night have water again.
There may be one or two issues at property levels, caused by air locks or failed internal pumps, but we have support on hand to investigate these when they are brought to our attention.
As a precaution, we have again opened the bottled water station for anyone who needs it. This can be found at Barnet Copthall Leisure Centre, Champions Way NW4 1PX.
Our focus now will be on carrying out the repair. However, as I previously said, this will be a complicated repair and it is likely to be several days until we can reinstate the road.
There will also be some overnight disruption to nearby houses while we work. We are sorry for this and will do what we can to keep noise to a minimum, but it is essential we complete the work as quickly as possible given the importance of the pipe.
We have a team of customer representatives located near the burst site to speak with residents and we will be dropping a letter to all properties in the vicinity. One lane of the A41 will need to remain closed for the duration of this work.
I want to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience this burst has caused everyone and thank people for their patience.
Monday 13th December - PM
We have supply back across the majority of the area and this will extend to the rest of the area later this evening. If your water is back on, we know you may still have low pressure especially during times of high demand, which tend to be early in the morning and evening.
We’re grateful for your understanding and patience while we continue to fix this issue.
