Launching the crime chapter of his manifesto, Mr Johnson pledged to work with the Met Commissioner to add three extra police officers to every Safer Neighbourhood Team in Barnet as well as three Special Constables making them more effective than ever in preventing as well as solving crime.
The move, point 4 of his 9 point plan to secure a Greater London, is part of a wider boost to neighbourhood policing across London which will see 2,000 officers redeployed to Safer Neighbourhood Teams.
Speaking following the announcement Mike Freer said, “Boris Johnson’s pledge to beef up community policing across the borough will mean 63 additional officers on Safer Neighbourhood Teams across Barnet.
This comes on top of the extra 1,000 police that are on the beat since Boris became Mayor in 2008, which have helped continue to drive down crime. We must not return to the days of Ken Livingstone when crime in outer London was ignored by City Hall.”
Key highlights from Boris Johnson’s crime manifesto for Barnet:

<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Introduction of a Safer Neighbourhood Board in Barnet, allowing residents to set policing priorities. There will be specific places for young people on each board.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Each member of the board will have a number of responsibilities, including monitoring complaints from victims of crime, to give them a greater voice, and monitor crime performance and community confidence.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->· <!--[endif]-->Maintain funding for 697 extra police Boris Johnson has put on the transport network to make travelling safer. This is funding which would be at risk under Ken Livingstone’s plans to cut £1.14billion from London’s transport budget.
