Mitzvah Day was set up by Laura Marks in 2005 and subsequently became a registered charity in 2008. Since then the organisation has brought over 37,000 people together each year to take part in social action projects which are having a noticeable impact in improving local communities.
When asked about the charity, Mike Freer said:
"It's amazing to see Mitzvah Day getting bigger each year. Not only are more people, of all faiths, in my constituency getting involved this year - but we've seen lots of MPs doing their own Mitzvahs today. In a world which can sometimes be divisive, this really is something that unites people and I'm proud to play a small part in it."
Mitzvah Day has become memorable day in British Jewry’s annual calendar. However, Mitzvah Day welcomes volunteers from all walks of life, irrespective of age, faith, affiliation or gender. This year the event will be taking place on 22 November 2015.
