New Alzheimer’s drugs on the NHS welcomed

Mike Freer MP has welcomed the National Institute for Clinical Excellence’s (NICE) decision to provide four new drugs to Alzheimer’s sufferers.  Mike is the Vice-Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Alzheimer’s disease. 

Mike presses the case for Henlys Corner

Mike has met with senior members of Transport for London to push for the proposed upgrade of Henlys Corner to receive funding.  He was joined by the Leader of Barnet Council, Cllr Lynne Hillan, and the Chief Executive, Nick Walkey to emphasise the depth of feeling in Finchley and Golders Green.  

Redevelopment of Finchley Memorial Hospital gets Government go-ahead

Work to improve the hospital will begin after HM Treasury Ministers signed off funding.There had been concerns that due to the country’s financial position the project may have been delayed.  Construction will now move ahead, transforming the 1908 hospital into a state-of-the-art building equipped to provide a range of health care services to local people.  

£50m for new cancer drugs

Mike has welcomed the news the Coalition Government will be funding cancer drugs previously deemed ‘too expensive’ by Labour.

Government Ministers asked to recruit more Asian Civil Servants

Mike has quizzed Government Ministers about what they are doing to recruit more Black, Asian and ethnic minorities into the Civil Service.  In Parliament he asked the Minister for Women and Equalities, Lynne Featherstone, what action she was taking ‘on increasing recruitment to the Civil Service from Black, Asian and other minority ethnic people.’

Terrorism laws review welcomed

Mike Freer MP has welcomed the review into Labour’s anti-terrorism laws announced today by the Home Secretary.

Praise for Fadlallah ‘unacceptable’

Mike Freer MP has written to the Foreign Secretary, the Rt Hon William Hague MP, to express his concern at the blog written by the British Ambassador to the Lebanon praising Sheikh Mohammed Hussein Fadlallah, but also welcoming the Foreign Secretary's response. The letter reads: 

New Stanmore hospital welcomed by MP

Mike Freer MP has welcomed the announcement from the Department of Health that the redevelopment of Stanmore hospital will go ahead.  The plans are for a new, purpose built specialist orthopaedic hospital which will replace the existing dilapidated buildings, many of which date from the 1940s.  The proposals had been agreed by the previous government but like all public spending had been put under review by the new coalition government.
